Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

Purpose: The purpose of this project is to promote and enhance the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) within DePaul University. Because “promoting scholarship on teaching that inspires and engages other faculty” is a part of the mission of the Society of Vincent de Paul Professors, we believe that supporting SoTL activities and mentoring faculty interested in SoTL is crucial. We work with the Office for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (TLA) and the Committee on Learning and Teaching whenever possible, as well as conducting our own independent activities.

VdPP Project Coordinator: Amber Settle (CDM)

Format: The group meets whenever necessary based on current activities, typically at least one meeting per quarter. Past activities have included an information table at the DePaul Faculty Teaching and Learning Conference, development of materials for the SoTL Grant Program offered through the TLA, review of applications to the SoTL Grant Program, participation in SoTL-focused workshops offered at DePaul, and a survey of DePaul administrators regarding SoTL issues. Most recently, members of this group reviewed all applications to the Office of Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (TLA) SoTL grant program, making recommendations regarding funding and staffed a table during the reception of the Faculty Teaching and Learning Conference in the spring 2016 quarter to encourage faculty to develop and pursue SoTL projects. The group is currently in the planning stages for a Fall Forum Workshop organized with the TLA on course revision.
