Teaching and Learning Initiatives Committee

Purpose: The Teaching and Learning Initiatives Committee of the Society of Vincent de Paul Professors works to support various initiatives across the university to improve teaching and learning, often in collaboration with the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL).  Current committee activities include:

  • Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL):  Because “promoting scholarship on teaching that inspires and engages other faculty" is a part of the mission of the Society of Vincent de Paul Professors, we believe that supporting SoTL and mentoring faculty interested in SoTL is crucial.
  • Teaching Mentoring for the Teaching and Learning Certificate Program (TLCP Teaching Mentoring):  The committee works in collaboration with the Center for Teaching and Learning to serve faculty members who participate in the Teaching and Learning Certificate Program.

VdPP Project Coordinator: Eric Schwabe (CDM)

Format: The group meets as needed based on current activities.  Committee members may choose to participate in any subset of the committee's activities in which they are interested.  Past activities have included an SoTL resource table at the DePaul Faculty Teaching and Learning Conference, review of proposals for the Teaching and Learning Conference, development of materials for and review of applications to the SoTL Grant Program offered through CTL, participation in SoTL-focused workshops offered at DePaul, and participation in workshops and meetings to support CTL's Teaching and Learning Certificate Program.  Committee members who choose to serve as TLCP Teaching Mentors must commit to the mentoring responsibilities specified by CTL, and are expected to commit 10 hours of service in during the quarter in which they participate as a mentor for meetings, consultations and communication with their assigned mentee.
