DePaul University recognized two Kenyan crusaders with honorary doctorates for their distinguished careers and service to others during the commencement ceremony at Tangaza College in Nairobi, Kenya. Father Holtschneider conferred the degrees upon Sister Ephigenia W. Gachiri, a renowned educator and women's rights activist, and Mary Getui, an established expert on the roles of religion, family and public health in Africa.
Twenty-two students at Tangaza College graduated with bachelor's degrees in leadership and management from DePaul University's School for New Learning. Students in the program include laypeople and religious men and women who are selected by their communities for their leadership potential. DePaul established the program at Tangaza in 2006 with a grant from the Conrad H. Hilton Foundation.
