Why a University Ombudsperson?

In keeping with its Vincentian personalism and Catholic identity, DePaul University is committed to treating every member of its community with dignity, justice and respect. It also expects the same from individual members of the community in their relations with each other. This calls for direct and candid conversations between all members of the university community. Should miscommunication or conflict arise, the university has committed itself to make good faith efforts to resolve such problems.

The university also provides additional assistance through the Sexual Harassment Policy Office and its Director and the Senior Executive for Institutional Diversity to provide faculty and staff with resources to address specific issues in these areas, as well as an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for confidential outside assistance.

In light of DePaul’s growth and increasing organizational complexity, the university has established the office of University Ombudsperson as a complementary resource for faculty and staff to deal with issues, concerns, and problems that might not otherwise be addressed by official channels of communication.
