Philanthropy

One of the ways in which the DES makes a significant contribution to the university community is through its philanthropy efforts. In addition to the standard opportunity to donate to the university through its Annual Giving Campaign, DES members may also contribute to the DES Scholarship Fund. Begun by the Staff Emeritus Society in 2003, the fund solicits donations to provide scholarship money to an undergraduate student in his/her junior or senior year of study. The minimum required funding to designate a scholarship was reached during the 2008-09 fiscal year, and the DES granted its first scholarship in spring of 2009.

The DES mails an annual solicitation each fall, but welcomes financial support at any time during the year. Donations may be directed to the Office of Planned Giving, 55 E. Jackson Boulevard, 18th Floor, Chicago, IL 60604, and should be marked or noted “DES Fund.” Questions about giving may be directed to either of the co-chairs of the Philanthropy Committee.

At the end of each fiscal year, the DES reviews a breakdown of retiree giving trends in an Annual Retiree Gift Report:
