What has been the most rewarding part of working in international admission at DePaul University?
The most rewarding part is seeing the progression of international students throughout their university experience. I enjoy assisting students through the application process, enrolling and adjusting to life in the U.S. Then, over time, I see them leading student group organizations, interning at big name companies and participating in Vincentian Service Day. By the end of their academic program, they are thriving, confident and ready to take on life’s next challenge.
What piece of advice would you give an international student who is beginning the university search process?
Start early and take your time in selecting a university that suits your interests and goals best. If you have questions, reach out to the admission counselors. Also, see if you can talk to current international students on campus to learn more about their experiences and to gain valuable insight and advice.
What is your favorite thing about living in the city of Chicago?
Food! With over 70 diverse and ethnic neighborhoods in Chicago, you can taste cuisines from around the world every day!
If an international student is curious but unsure about attending college in a city as large as Chicago, what would you tell them?
While Chicago is a large city, with over 70 diverse neighborhoods, it feels like you live in a small community within the city. The public transportation system is excellent, easy to use, and connects all the neighborhoods so the entire city is at your fingertips to explore! Also, Chicago has endless opportunities both culturally and professionally. Being a global city, it has company headquarters, internationally recognized museums (Art Institute of Chicago ranked #1 in the world), theatre, music, sports and culinary cuisine from around the world. DePaul connects students to all of these resources, leading students to grow academically, professionally and personally during their studies.
