Marla’s primary practice area is student affairs. She provides advice and counsel to Student Affairs and other University clients on a wide-range of issues involving students. This includes student conduct, student housing, student activities, students with disabilities, student mental health, academic integrity, student litigation, and other student-related matters. Marla also provides advice and counsel regarding study abroad and international programs, including contractual matters and international risk management. Marla’s other practices areas include campus safety and Clery Act compliance, experiential education, sexual and relationship violence, diversity, public relations, speech and expression, and bankruptcy. Marla chairs the University’s Sexual and Relationship Violence Prevention and Response Working Group. Prior to working at DePaul, Marla worked at the Chicago law firm of Goldberg Kohn and clerked for the Honorable Milton Shadur, United States District Judge for the Northern District of Illinois. Marla received her J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School in 2003, where she was a member of both the Order of the Coif and the Michigan Law Review. She received her B.A. in American History from Northwestern University.
