Speech and Race Action Plan: Fall quarter update

At Convocation in September, the Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, C.M., president of DePaul, unveiled a Speech and Race Action Plan to pursue throughout the 2016-17 academic year. The DePaul community made progress on multiple aspects of the action plan in the fall quarter, and work continues this winter.

At DePaul’s Convocation on Sept. 1, remarks delivered by the Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, C.M. included an update on the DePaul Speech and Race Action Plan. The comprehensive plan outlines specific, measurable tasks that the university as a whole will pursue throughout the 2016-17 academic year. DePaul launches year-long series on race and free speech

As part of DePaul’s broad action plan to address issues that came to a tipping point last spring, the university community is invited participate in the President’s Series on Race and Free Speech. The events will continue through the 2016-17 academic year and are open to students, faculty and staff.

In the wake of the incidents that followed the Milo Yiannopoulos lecture on May 24, students, faculty and staff continue to process the anger, shock and fear shared among members of the DePaul community, as well as show their determination to make the university a place where all students can thrive and all feel safe.
