Karen Tamburro joined the university and the staff of the Office of Intuitional Diversity and Equity in 2015 as its Title IX coordinator. (Title IX is the federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, including sexual harassment and sexual and relationship violence, in federally funded programs.) Karen is responsible for investigating and tracking complaints based on sexual violence, sexual harassment or other sex discrimination at the university and is also involved in Title IX training. Karen has worked in the field of civil rights since graduating from DePaul's College of Law in 1996. She started her career in Chicago, practicing in the areas of police misconduct and employment discrimination. She worked in Boston as an employment lawyer and in Phoenix representing farmworkers in labor and employment issues. More recently, Karen worked as a supervisory attorney with the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights, where she investigated complaints of discrimination and harassment in educational institutions, including complaints of sexual misconduct in the post-secondary setting.
