Barbara Schaffer serves as associate vice president in the Office of Institutional Diversity and Equity, overseeing the resolution of complaints of discrimination and harassment filed under the Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy and Procedures at DePaul as well as BUILD, the university's Diversity Certificate program. She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Washington University in St. Louis and taught English at The University of Toledo before coming to DePaul in 1992. In 1994 Barbara became the sexual harassment ombudsperson while still teaching. In 1999 she became the founding director of the Sexual Harassment Policy Office, which merged with the Office of Institutional Diversity and Equity in 2006. Her field of interest includes the establishment of sexual harassment policies in religious institutions and has consulted internationally on establishing these policies in Vietnam, Hong Kong, Greece and Morocco. In addition, Barbara teaches global women's issues, travel writing, and takes students on study abroad trips to Ireland and Morocco.
