Students Together Are Reaching Success (STARS)

What is it?

Students Together Are Reaching Success (STARS) is a peer-to-peer mentoring programming for first-time DePaul Students. Our Mentors are passionate about helping students adjust to DePaul by having outings, showing students how to use resources, and being a friendly face on campus. Mentors will check in on mentees once a week to ensure their success.

Who can join?

Students who are first-generation college students, students of color, or pell-eligible are our priority enrollees.

Why should I join?

“One should become a mentee to gain those hidden gems of DePaul and get insightful advice from mentors who were once in their shoes.” –Alexis Johnson (Psychology, 3rd Year)

“I recommend that students become mentees because it helps them get acquainted with the resources available at DePaul. Going to an institution with 20,000+ students in Chicago can be overwhelming. STARS Peer Mentors can help them combat any challenges that they may have and help them thrive during their time as a student.” –Samantha Mallett (Business Marketing, Rising Senior)

What can you hope to gain from being a part of STARS?

  • Community: Students who engage in any of the College Transitions programs or events will establish a supportive community to assist them in navigating DePaul's systems.
  • Mentoring: By joining the STARS Program, first-year students are paired with a successful continuing who helps them find their way through the first year college experience. The mentors connect them to the campus community and assist them with finding the opportunities that best fit their interests and needs.
  • Advocacy: In conjunction with STARS mentors, the Office of Multicultural Student Success staff provides advocacy to students who may have personal or academic issues related to a situation or experience they've had on- or off-campus.
  • Advising: Your mentor can connect you to an OMSS staff member who can provide one-on-one advising sessions regarding your personal, vocational and social concerns and needs.
  • Academic Support: OMSS provides academic assistance through our Reaching for Academic Progress (R.A.P.) program. As part of the R.A.P. program, OMSS staff members monitor student academic progress at the middle and end of each quarter. R.A.P. sessions, or one-on-one meetings with an OMSS staff member, maybe scheduled at midterms or finals.
