DOTS Alumni Winter Gathering

This meeting is a great opportunity to talk with FITS staff and your fellow DOTS alums about online and hybrid teaching. Faculty interested in taking DOTS are also welcome to attend.

SoftChalk Training

Jan Costenbader, a Sr. Instructional Technology Consultant in FITS, will be offering SoftChalk training on each campus the last two Fridays in January. SoftChalk allows instructors to create interactive lecture content with quizzes, images, videos, and pop-up text annotations. In the workshop, you'll create a simple lesson and upload it to D2L.

You can choose to attend in the loop or Lincoln Park. (Both sessions are identical, so you only need to attend one.)​

Lincoln Park Session
Time: Friday, January 22nd from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Location: 111 W. Belden Room 418 (McGowan South) 
Loop Session 
Time: Friday, January 29th from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM 
Location: 25 E. Jackson Suite 1250 (FITS training lab in the Lewis building) 

Videoconferencing Workshop

If you're interested in using videoconferencing tools to foster international collaborations in your courses, consider attending, "Bringing the World to DePaul: Using Real-Time, Online Collaboration to Foster Global Learning." This workshop will include presentations from faculty who have used various online meeting tools to facilitate collaborations with professionals and students from international organizations and schools.

Finding the Face-to-Face When You Have No Face

Many faculty wonder what strategies they can employ to engage with students and create a sense of instructor presence in online courses. Kelly Kessler, an associate professor in the College of Communication, addresses this issue in "Finding the Face-to-Face When You Have No Face." The article was published in the Winter 2015 issue of Cinema Journal.
